River Mikael-Wrinch is a documentary photographer and filmmaker based in Scotland whose work explores storytelling in both his own and others' narratives, capturing moments that reveal emotional truths and resonate deeply with viewers. With a background in both visual and performance arts, River has long been curious about how to convey stories through his chosen mediums—whether through the capturing of light in photography, pen on paper, or moving images.

Heavily inspired by those who strive for excellence in their craft, River draws from a rich tapestry of artistic traditions. His work is deeply influenced by the Renaissance, particularly the Flemish and Italian periods, which shape his portraiture. He also holds a profound appreciation for French Impressionism and Spanish Romanticism, with the evocative works of Ramon Casas inspiring his approach to mood, atmosphere, and gesture recognition.

Primarily self-taught as a photographer and formally trained as a painter, River’s personal curriculum is anchored in the study of masters from both photography and painting, whether historic or contemporary. Photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank, W. Eugene Smith, and Sebastião Salgado, alongside painters like Diego Velázquez, Edgar Degas, Édouard Manet, and Gustave Doré, form the foundation of his artistic practice and profoundly shape way of seeing.
